How Sustainable Design Reduces Environmental Impacts
As technology advances, life gets easier for humans too. From our ways of transportation to our forms of communication, things have definitely become more convenient today as compared before.
While this might sound great for some of us, what some of us don't know is that there are some negative impacts related to it. Unfortunately, what brings us convenience today doesn't actually have the best impact on the environment. Good thing more and more people are now seeking ways to reduce humans’ impact on the environment.
In the world of building, for example. A lot of architects are now pushing sustainable design to reduce environmental impacts. But how exactly can it help?
1. It can contribute to waste reduction.
To ensure that the construction has a reduced environmental footprint, as much as possible, recycled materials will be used. There will also be an active effort to be able to reuse other construction materials.
2. It reduces fuel and electrical consumption.
What's good about sustainable design is that there is a conscious attempt to improve the air quality and conserve and restore natural resources. For example, by removing pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, CO2 emissions (the greenhouse gas that affects climate change) can be lowered.
3. It conserves water.
The sustainable design aims to create energy-efficient plumbing systems to conserve water. Wastewater and rainwater recycling systems are also being considered to be able to reuse water.
Everyone might not yet be open to the idea of sustainable design since it arguably affects convenience, it certainly has some benefits that can benefit not just the environment, but also the economy in the long run.
So, what do you think? Is sustainable design for you?
